| Journeys
through areas of outstanding natural beauty in the UK |
Here are some routes that pass through parts of Britain that are
of outstanding natural beauty. We hope that this list will provide
you with some useful travelling suggestions.
According
to a national newspaper, there are three great rail routes that
pass through areas of spectacular countryside. We list them here.
They are in no particular order.
- Glasgow
- Mallaig. This route uses the West Highland Line.
- Settle
- Carlisle. This line passes through the northern Pennines.
- Shrewsbury
- Swansea. This follows the Heart of Wales Line.
The
staffs at National Express have suggested several classic express
coach routes through Britain. We are pleased to include their suggestions.
Again, this list is in no particular order.
- Bath -
Bournemouth. You can take a bath at one end and enjoy a dip
the other!
- Carlisle
- Inverness. This route offers a taste of Scotland.
- Leeds
- Carlisle.
Here you see the best of the North.
- Preston
- Whitehaven. This route follows the lakes.
- Sheffield
- Manchester. The clouds need to be high for this trip!
- Shrewsbury
- Aberystwyth. This route takes you from the hills to the
sea.

| London
Underground - stations chosen for their considerable architectural
merit |
If you are planning
on travelling by London Underground then you may think there will
not be much to see! However, some of the London Underground stations
are of such outstanding architectural interest that they are worthy
of a visit in their own right. Here are our suggestions.
- Canary
Wharf. This station is on the new Jubilee
Line Extension and has minimalist cathedral-like qualities.
- North
Greenwich. Here is another station on the new Jubilee Line
Extension. This station is the largest metro station in Europe.
It has blue-mosaic tiling and angled supporting columns.
- Westminster.
Again, this is on the new Jubilee Line Extension. This station
has won an award for its architecture.
- Stratford.
The Stratford interchange is also on the new Jubilee Line Extension,
and it is worthy of viewing for its wave-shaped roof.
- Arnos
Grove. Of the older stations, Arnos Grove is a classic example
of 1930s design.
- Baker
Street. This station is in typical Victorian style.
- Piccadilly.
This station is in typical Art Deco style.
- Gloucester
Road. This station has platform art exhibits that make it
worth viewing.
